Join local author Tyson Mastel for a reading and signing of his new book “The Girls”. Tyson will be joining us October 24, 2:00 to 3:00
Tyson is an educator, advocate and gay writer based in Edmonton, Alberta. He has spent his career helping young people discover the power of stories. With a passion for literacy and history, Tyson is dedicated to creating inclusive learning environments and amplifying diverse and underrepresented stories.
Tyson’s writing shines a light on overlooked histories, with a particular passion for uncovering and celebrating 2SLGBTQ+ history that has too often been left out of the history books. His debut picture book, The Girls: The Wild and Wondrous Lives of Jean Wallbridge and Mary Imrie, introduces young readers to Canada’s first all-female architectural firm and the remarkable love story behind their groundbreaking work.The book has been recognized as part of one of Canada’s largest queer picture book collections created by Senator Kristopher Wells called ‘Reading with Pride: Stories for Everyone.”
Tyson hopes his stories help queer kids and families feel seen and represented. He hopes they inspire young readers to ask questions, celebrate differences, and discover that history is full of amazing people just waiting to be found.
